Look to the Sun(flowers)

Every summer, all of Raleigh flocks to Dorothea Dix Park to look at a field of sunflowers. The majority of people are dressed to the nines, their photographer in tow, looking for the perfect stalk to snap the best photo op for the ‘Gram.

The past two years, Bash and I have joined the hot, sweaty masses in our grubby clothes for a quick 15 minute in and out experience. He’s not super into it, but I find the sunflowers fascinating.

Their heliotropism allows them to slowly track the direction of the sun throughout the course of the day, each and every day.

During the season of transition, I find myself tracking the light, too.

In my world, that means:

  • surrounding myself with people that are stabilizing and uplifting

  • focusing on intentional and meaningful projects that elevate our mission

  • putting myself in places and environments that are interesting, engaging, and inspiring
